Learn To Skate 

The Learn To Skate/Whack a Puck program is the building block for the future of the league. The goal is to teach kids to skate in a fun and supportive environment establishing a life long love of hockey. The initial 10-week session  begins on the first Sunday in October.  The second session begins December 12th  and runs until February 28rd. All lessons are Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:20 at Rockett Arena at Salem State University.

     Learn To Skate/WAP Fall Session- 2022/2023 Dates TBD

Consists of MYHA coaches and student volunteers utilizing fun activities and games designed for participants become more comfortable on the ice; falling, getting back up, and balancing, while developing basic skating skills. It is STRONGLY encouraged that parents join their children on the ice.

    Learn To Skate/ WAP Winter Session - 2022/2023 Dates TBD

Kids who can skate without assistance begin to learn how to use a stick and handle the puck.   For kids who need more time to practice basic skating skills, or for kids joining the program for the first time, Learn to Skate activities continue to be offered at the opposite end of the ice.


Basic safety equipment is required per the league's insurance policy and USA Hockey. New equipment can be purchased at The Marblehead Sport Shop or Pro Hockey in Danvers. Used equipment can be purchased at Play It Again Sports in Stoneham.  Players are given a MYHA jersey on their first day.


    • Hockey Skates
    • Children and parents that go on the ice must wear  a helmet, a USA Certified Hockey helmet with a cage  is preferred
    • Hockey gloves or ski gloves to protect the hands.
    • Knee pads or shin pads


    • Elbow pads and shin pads
    • Snow pants or hockey pants
    • Players progressing to Whack-A-Puck should have a full compliment of hockey gear.

Co-directors, Paul Glasier and Alex Mundo, have extensive hockey backgrounds. Coach Alex has over 20 years of hockey experience and grew up through the Marblehead youth hockey program. Coach Paul, an Elizabeth Maine native, was an all-star at Southern Maine University has experience  coaching at all levels.
