Volunteer Opportunities

Any successful non-profit  organization relies on the help of dedicated volunteers. Below, is a description of volunteer opportunities .  If interested in continuing to make Marblehead Youth Hockey great, please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page. Please make sure to include the team on which your child/children play. Please know that some of these positions may be currently filled.

The Board of Directors also welcomes feedback on other areas that the league may utilize volunteers.

Coach

Responsible for all aspects of  coaching and development of assigned team. In order to coach for Marblehead Youth Hockey, the following steps need to be taken.

  • Be a valid member of USA Hockey
  • Pass CORI check by Mass Hockey
  • Attend local coaches training in August to learn CPR and other first aid skills. (4 Hours)
  • Take on-line SafeSport Module (2 Hours)
  • Take on-line USA Hockey level course (3 Hours)
  • Take classroom CEP level class (8 Hours)

Fundraising Committee - 20 Hours per season

  • Work directly with the fundraising chair to organize 2 events per year.
  • Work with Team Managers to obtain team sponsors
  • Work with Saint Lambert Committee to obtain tournament sponsors
  • Work with Team Managers on FlipGive training and promotion.

Equipment Manager - 20 Hours Per Season

  • Organize equipment buckets for each team at the beginning of the season.
  • Collect and inventory equipment at the end of the season
  • Maintain order of the rented equipment shed
  • Organize equipment donation day at the end of the season and at the equipment/jersey fit night

 

Safety Compliance Officer

Work directly with Coaches Committee, to arrange training sessions for all MYHA coaches before the season starts.

Training should include:

  • CPR
  • Assessing head injury
  • How to move or not move injured players
  • Proper use of tourniquets and aiding lacerations
  • Injecting EPI Pens

Work with equipment manager to have  a properly stocked first aid kits given to each team.

Blog Writer - 3 Hours Per Month

Write a blog once or twice a month which will be posted on the Marblehead Youth Hockey website and across social media platforms. One can volunteer to write all of the blogs or be a single contributor. Topics to included but not limited to  league and hockey highlights, hockey news,  performance nutrition, athlete time management etc.

 

 

Learn To Skate Coordinator - 40 hours per season

Promote, administer, and coach The Learn To Skate/Whack A Puck program.

  • Lead 50 minute lessons over 20 weeks
  • Coordinate assistant coaches
  • Take weekly attendance
  • Coordinate signage and advertising
  • Create practice plans
  • Send our weekly communication to parents
  • Order jerseys

 

 

Team Manager- 2 Hours Per Week

Work Directly with the head coach to do the following tasks

  • Update Team Snap with game statistics and team photos
  • Obtain a team sponsor which is $200 per year
  • Organize pre-season team event
  • Help with outside tournaments if applicable
  • Promote and Manage Team FlipGive Contest

Saint Lambert Committee

Coordinate a billeting for the tournament in November.

Saint Lambert Weekend Representative- 10 Hours Per Season

There are many things to do during STL weekend in November. Volunteer to do one or some of these following things:

  • Set-up and take down banners and  signage
  • Take Pictures
  • Work concessions
  • Team or Level coordinator for the event
  • Scorekeeper/ DJ
  • Create tournament booklet
  • Obtain sponsors for the tournament booklet

Goalie Coordinators

Responsible for implementing a plan to enhance our goalie  program. Attention needs to be made to aspiring goalies which tend to have different needs than players that have chosen goalie as their  permanent position. In years past, MYHA has partnered with Varsity High School goalies for a clinic for entry level goalies and has outsourced specialized training.

Marketing- 2 Hours Per Month

Write and submit articles with photographs to the Marblehead Reporter and Wicked Local. Topics could include the  Learn To Skate Program, Saint Lambert Tournament, Hollyhocks program, and distinctive tournament or play-off wins. Will need to work with social media director to make sure articles are cross-posted on social media platforms. The goal would be to submit one article per month during the season.

Picture Day Representative- 7 Hours Per Season

Work with BOD to hire photographer, communicate with parents, and organize  picture day for the entire league. Be onsite during the picture event to ensure things run smoothly.

Equipment Fit Night - 6 Hours Per Season

Be onsite at the Marblehead Sports Shop during equipment/jersey fit night to help families who have questions on fitting equipment properly.

Lynn Snack Bar Committe

Research the viability and demand for hosting a  Monday night snack bar at Lynn  Connery Rink. If deemed possible, then organize a group of volunteers to implement the program.
